Hayley Fenn is a third-year graduate student in Historical Musicology. Her musicological studies began in 2005 at King’s College London and culminated in 2010 with a Masters degree, funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council, for which she submitted a thesis entitled “The Meaning of Muteness.” Then she promptly became a secondary school teacher. She loves to talk about her career highlight, Zeeman Fest, but less so, her career lowlight - falling of her chair in the midst of scolding her English class of 30 11-year old boys. Whilst she couldn’t stay away from academia for too long, she also couldn’t stay away from the thrill of teaching. She is now a resident tutor at Currier House, where she organizes coffeehouses and spends far too long chatting in the dining hall. Hayley likes to write about opera and film, and has presented papers on the “popera” phenomenon and the Aeolian harp. She is currently working on a dissertation proposal on the topic of puppetry and music.
